Of course by now, you’ve heard ‘Royals’ – that moody and catchy pop song by New Zealand singer/songwriter and multi award winner Lorde? Chances are you definitely have, and if you’re not sure, you can check it out here:
We are huge fans of this song here at Pamper Hamper Gifts (makes all the ribbon tying and packing much easier when there’s good music on in the background!) and the lyrics of Royals in particular are not only powerful in themselves, resonating with us on so many levels, but the words prompted me to write a blog post about…. What else? The English Royal family, their resurgence in popularity, their impending Aussie visit and what significance Charlie, Camilla, Liz and all the gang have to and Pamper Hamper Gifts!
Lorde’s chorus chimes:
“And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy”.
And I think it’s this very verse that hits the nail on the head when it comes to our love (and sometimes obsession) with the British Royal family. Indeed, this would apply to a lot of revered and idolised celebrities – let’s face it, the reason we are obsessed and love to follow their every movement and haircut is that we ourselves by and large live lives so far removed from theirs, our everyday lives are so ordinary compared to theirs, that we love to see in great detail how the other half live.
Whether its their wealth or beauty, or the circles they move in, this is at the very heart of why we buy magazines, watch the gossip shows and follow the Royals’ and celebs’ every move.
It’s a form of escape - part inspiration and part adoration – where we may wish we had what they have, wish we looked like them and lived their fairytale lives.
Take Wills and Kate for example. (they’re almost here!!!!) Just
your typical young couple in love, get married have a baby, right? Well not exactly. Like all fairytales this one is full of pomp and ceremony- where the ‘common’ girl catches the eye and heart of a handsome prince and despite their attempts to ‘keep it real’ their love affair and life plays like a Disney movie for all the world to see. We loved watching the princess’ transformation from Kate Middleton to Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge, we tried to guess what her wedding gown would look like and waited patiently (or impatiently) for her to have her baby. It is this precise type of connection, this feeling of luxurious and lavish, regal glamour and joys from another world that we want to convey when you receive and open a Pamper Hamper Gifts hamper. We want people to gasp with wonder, marvel and squeal with delight at the details, savour the feeling it gives you and loseyourself (even if its just for a little while) in the glamour and luxury of it all.
I guess it’s the reason we use sayings like “fit for a king” or “like a queen”. If you want the recipients of your gifts to feel like royalty, if there’s a princess or king or queen or duchess in your life then Pamper Hamper Gifts has just enough glamour, luxury, pomp and ceremony to celebrate any occasion.
